Welcome to the Breakfast Club

In 2023, John (W2VP) set himself the goal of revitalising the 75 m DX window.During the winter season 2023/2024, he was regularly on the air, and over time other radio amateurs from North America and Europe joined him on 75 m.

Today we call ourselves the Breakfast Group. The founders and so-called regulars of the group are W2VP, M0CHK, F5VBD, W9LF, OK2IT and LX1LC. K8RUE was also a regular participant; sadly, he became a silent key in the summer of 2025 and is fondly remembered.

We are usually on the air daily between 05:00 and 08:00 UTC, on 3.785 kHz ± QRM.

Everyone is welcome to join us — barefoot, QRP, or full power. Our main goal is activity, friendliness, and keeping the 75 m band alive.

Where does the name “Breakfast Club” come from?

For stations in Europe, our activity time coincides with early morning and breakfast time. For North America, it is late night or very early morning — a quiet time when long-distance contacts on 75 m are often possible.

Like a group of friends meeting regularly for breakfast, the same voices gather on the same frequency, day after day.

The name is also a friendly reference to the classic 1985 movie The Breakfast Club, about different people coming together and finding common ground — very much like radio amateurs from different countries, stations, and power levels meeting on 75 m.

Also listen here to an MP3 recording in which W2VP explains how the Breakfast Club got its name.
